Investing in People, Protecting Wildlife: Meet the Team Behind SFWC

At the South Florida Wildlife Center, our team is more than just a group of professionals—we’re a passionate family dedicated to healing, educating, and advocating for wildlife. Behind every rescued animal and each life-changing outreach event is a staff member who brings knowledge, heart, and determination to our mission.

In this blog, we’re proud to highlight two powerful stories that show how the people behind SFWC continue to grow, inspire, and make an impact.

Staff Spotlight: Natalie Nicosia, Outreach Coordinator

As Outreach Coordinator, Natalie Nicosia plays a vital role in bridging the gap between wildlife and the community. Through hands-on education with students and community groups, Natalie sparks curiosity and inspires a new generation to care deeply about the natural world.
One of her favorite parts of the job? “Working alongside a team that’s deeply passionate about protecting local wildlife,” she says. “The shared commitment and camaraderie here create a purpose-driven environment where everyone is motivated to make a difference.”
Natalie’s most memorable experience at SFWC involved rehabilitating two orphaned coyote pups found separately just one day apart. Their successful reunion and release became a powerful reminder of what education and compassion can achieve—not just for animals, but for public understanding of misunderstood species like coyotes.

Strengthening Skills at FWRA 2025

In February 2025, several of our staff members attended the Florida Wildlife Rehabilitators Association (FWRA) Symposium in Altamonte Springs—a premier event for wildlife professionals across the state. The goal: sharpen skills, expand knowledge, and bring the latest rehabilitation techniques back to SFWC.

  • Advanced wound management
  • Neonatal and post-release care
  • Species-specific enrichment techniques
  • Networking with researchers, vets, and fellow rehabbers

This kind of continued education is essential to maintaining the highest standards of care for the thousands of animals that come through our doors each year. We’re proud of our staff for their dedication to lifelong learning and grateful to FWRA for creating such a valuable platform.

With these tools and techniques in hand, our team is now even better equipped to improve outcomes for South Florida’s wildlife.

Why It Matters

People like Natalie—and the entire SFWC staff—are what make our mission possible. Their compassion, curiosity, and relentless pursuit of excellence are reflected in every animal rescued, every student inspired, and every life saved. By investing in our team, we’re investing in the future of Florida’s wildlife.
