At the South Florida Wildlife Center, every animal we treat is a reminder of why our work matters. Whether it’s rescuing an injured bird of prey, celebrating a selfless volunteer, or caring for a former pet who now calls our center home, we’re here to protect South Florida’s wild residents—no matter how big or small. Every rescue, recovery, and release is fueled by compassion, dedication, and community support. A Baby Osprey’s Second Chance
Recently, our rescue team responded to an urgent call: a juvenile Osprey had been seen on the ground for over 12 hours, looking weak and with no sign of its parents. Our ambulance driver and a veterinary extern rushed to the scene and safely transported the bird to our center.
Once admitted, our medical team discovered the Osprey was covered in hundreds of fly eggs—an alarming sign that it had been unattended for quite some time. Thanks to immediate intervention, the young bird is now receiving critical care, including gentle baths to remove parasites and monitor its condition. Once stable, it will be transferred to an outdoor enclosure where it can regain strength and prepare for release back into the wild.
This story is a powerful reminder of why it’s so important to stay alert during baby season. Wildlife often needs help—and your call can make the difference between life and death.
For over four years, Julia has gone above and beyond in every corner of our center. She supports our staff, comforts our animals, and even caters meals during our busiest days. Her kindness, flexibility, and fierce dedication make her a true hero to our team and the animals we serve.
Julia’s story is a beautiful example of how volunteers are the heartbeat of our mission.
Then there’s Rosemary, a striped skunk who found refuge at our center after being surrendered by the pet trade. Since arriving in 2022, Rosemary has become one of our most cherished animal ambassadors.
As an older skunk, Rosemary has traded excitement for serenity—napping through the day and enjoying quiet evening walks. She may be shy, but she has a gentle charm that reminds us that every creature deserves a safe place to call home. Through our symbolic adoption program, you can help support Rosemary’s care and become part of her ongoing journey.
Whether it’s through a donation, volunteering your time, or symbolically adopting an animal like Rosemary, there are so many ways to support the South Florida Wildlife Center.
Together, we can ensure that animals like the Osprey, and heroes like Julia, continue to inspire and thrive.
