At the South Florida Wildlife Center, our mission is more than just rescue—it’s about restoring balance to our ecosystems by giving native wildlife a second chance at life in the wild. That mission wouldn’t be possible without dedicated conservation partners like the Bergeron Everglades Foundation.
Recently, thanks to the generosity and collaboration of the Foundation, SFWC successfully released several gray foxes and a bobcat onto protected lands overseen by the Bergeron team. These animals, once injured, sick, or orphaned, received expert rehabilitation from our medical team—including nourishment, treatment, and readiness training—before returning to nature where they belong.
Their new home, carefully safeguarded by the Bergeron Everglades Foundation, provides the ideal environment for these animals to thrive. These releases aren’t just symbolic—they’re essential. Gray foxes help control rodent populations, and bobcats, as apex predators, help maintain the health of the entire ecosystem. By supporting a secure release site, the Foundation is playing a direct role in protecting the ecological balance of South Florida.
This partnership highlights how powerful it is when land stewardship and wildlife care intersect. And we invite you—our community—to be a part of it, too. If you have safe, wild land in the tri-county area that could serve as a wildlife release site, we want to hear from you.
The Bergeron Everglades Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by legendary Gladesman “Alligator” Ron Bergeron. With deep roots in Florida and a fierce love for the wild, the Foundation is on a mission to restore, conserve, and protect the Everglades ecosystem and all the life it nurtures—from sawgrass to seagrass.
But their impact goes far beyond land. The Foundation champions:
Their work ensures that the Everglades’ natural beauty and delicate ecological balance are preserved—not just for today, but for generations to come. They envision a world where the Everglades is cherished, its biodiversity is celebrated, and our shared heritage is safeguarded. We are proud to stand alongside the Bergeron Everglades Foundation as stewards of Florida’s natural world.
