For over five decades, the South Florida Wildlife Center (SFWC) has been a beacon of hope for thousands of injured and orphaned animals in South Florida. From rescuing tiny songbirds to rehabilitating injured mammals, the Center has tirelessly worked to protect and preserve our region’s diverse wildlife. Now, with an exciting new expansion project underway, SFWC is taking a monumental step forward to secure its future and continue its vital work for generations to
come.
Thanks to a groundbreaking partnership with the Town of Southwest Ranches and the Broward
County School Board, SFWC has secured an 8.25 acre parcel of land in Southwest Ranches to build a state-of-the-art wildlife hospital. This new facility will not only expand SFWC’s capacity to treat and rehabilitate wildlife but will also solidify its position as a leader in conservation and wildlife education in South Florida.
The hospital will feature advanced medical facilities, expanded rehabilitation areas, and innovative public education spaces. It is designed to meet the needs of South Florida’s growing wildlife population while fostering community involvement and awareness. With its new location, SFWC will be able to provide lifesaving care to even more animals, ensuring that every creature has a chance to heal and return to the wild.
South Florida’s unique ecosystem is home to an incredible variety of wildlife. However, rapid
urbanization, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflicts have increased the demand for SFWC’s
services. Each year, the Center admits between 10,000 and 12,000 animals, making it the
highest-volume wildlife hospital in Florida.
This expansion will address critical needs, including:
While the land is secured, bringing this vision to life will require the support of the entire community. Donations, volunteer efforts, and advocacy are all essential to making the new wildlife hospital a reality.
