Where the Wild Things Run 5K is more than a race, it is a new way for the South Florida Wildlife Center to bring our community together around a shared vision for the future of wildlife, people, and the environment we all call home.
For more than 70 years, South Florida Wildlife Center has cared for native wildlife in need. Today, we are building upon that legacy with a broader goal: to transform every rescue, every rehabilitation, every release, and every lesson learned into an opportunity to advance conservation. The thousands of wildlife cases that come through our doors provide a unique window into the health of South Florida’s ecosystems and the challenges facing wildlife in an increasingly urban environment.
Our vision for the future extends beyond treating individual animals. We are working toward a South Florida where people and wildlife can peacefully coexist, where advances in wildlife medicine improve our ability to return animals to the wild, where research and data contribute to meaningful conservation action, and where education empowers communities to become active participants in protecting the natural world.
Central to that future is One Health, the understanding that the health of wildlife, people, and the environment are deeply interconnected. Wildlife can tell us an extraordinary amount about the places we share, from environmental change and habitat pressures to emerging health concerns. By strengthening those connections, we hope to help build healthier ecosystems, healthier wildlife populations, and ultimately healthier communities.
On November 7, 2026, our inaugural Where the Wild Things Run 5K at Nova Southeastern University marks another step toward that future. Whether you run, walk, volunteer, sponsor, or cheer from the sidelines, your participation helps us continue to protect, rehabilitate, and release wildlife while advancing conservation, education, innovation, and community coexistence.
Every step has a purpose. Every release has an impact. And together, we can create a future where South Florida’s communities and wildlife thrive side by side.
